Farewell ELL Students Class of 2007!
On Thursday, May 31, 2007 Kahuku High & Intermediate School held its annual commencement ceremony to honor its roughly 300 graduates. Among the graduates were seven students of the ELL program. We are sad to say goodbye to these students, but we are very proud of their accomplishments. Like many other things in Hawaii, graduation was a unique mix of Western and Polynesian. Students wore the traditional gown and mortarboard, but the ceremony included singing, dancing, and Polynesian drumming. Afterwards, parents set up tents outside the gym with lavish buffet tables of traditional Hawaiian food. No graduate left for the evening without a lei around his or her neck - and more likely they left with five or ten.
ELL graduates include: John Ava, Henry Cocker, Joe Fereti, Timote Nai Fotu, Lolo Tilini, Hsu Ching-Hao, and Kemal Yildzoglu. Nearly all of these students are college bound in Fall 2007 or Fall 2008. Congratulations graduates! More pictures of graduation can be seen here.
